Loudoun Association for Children with Hearing Loss

The Loudoun Association for Children with Hearing Loss helps families share information about issues that face children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons

NVRC offers free Information and Referral services to people with hearing loss and their families, as well as free Fact Sheets and Assistive Device Demonstrations. The Center also participates in Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing TAP and TAPLoan programs which provide equipment to help people with hearing or speech difficulties use the telephone. Elder Choices Program

The Elder Resources Program exists to help people make informed decisions about health and social issues. It provides one number to call for information about care and activity options for Loudoun County older adults. The Elder Resources Program connects older residents and their caregivers to community resources.

Home Delivered Meals Program

The Home Delivered Meals Program is a door-to-door food program available to Loudoun County residents age 60 and over who cannot prepare their own meals for medical and/or physical reasons, and have no other assistance available. Volunteers deliver a hot, nutritious, noontime meal, Monday through Friday. (Non-perishable and frozen meals are available for weekends, or for older residents who live outside the delivery area). Although this is a no-fee service, donations are appreciated.

Volunteer opportunities for the Home Delivered Meals Program are available at numerous locations throughout the county. Meals are prepared, packaged, and delivered to local communities and county sites for distribution by volunteers. Delivery times vary depending on the location of the site. Individuals may volunteer for as little as one hour per month, week or day. Volunteers with Home Delivered Meals provide more than a daily meal to older residents, they provide the gift of friendship.

Loudoun County Adult Day Center

Our mission is to meet the needs of Loudoun County families by providing a quality, state-licensed adult day care service which gives relief to family caregivers and meets the needs of their loved ones. The center provides supervised activities for people with memory loss and other chronic disabilities, and respite for family members. Limited transportation is available.

Goals

To provide clients a secure day-care environment which includes activities celebrating not only their strengths but also their innate need for belonging, love, emotional and spiritual stimulation and a sense of self-esteem.
To provide precious hours of freedom for caregivers to work, take care of business, relax, or replenish themselves.
To prevent or delay institutionalization.
To help individuals remain independent for as long as possible by providing therapeutic activities.

Loudoun County Commission on Aging

The Loudoun County Commission on Aging is appointed by the Board of Supervisors and composed of a representative from each supervisory district and one at-large representative. The Commission on Aging is the advisory body to the Area Agency on Aging, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services.

Meetings take place on the third Thursday of each month and are open to the general public. Information about upcoming meetings is available on the county website's Master Calendar, by calling 703-777-0257, or by viewing meeting agendas and minutes here.

Special Olympics

Loudoun County Special Olympics is one of the most successful athletic programs in Northern Virginia. Special Olympics is a non-profit organization that provides training and competition in various Olympic-style sports. Training is free to the athletes. The average cost to train an athlete is $175 per season and is paid for by the local committee. Eligibility for participation in Special Olympics is open to those individuals at least eight years old who have been identified by an agency, or professional, as having mental retardation, or who have cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or who have significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay which have required specifically designed instruction.

Loudoun County Mental Health Services

The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation/Substance Abuse Services (MH/MR/SAS) has two Mental Health Centers that provide diagnostic and treatment services for Loudoun County citizens and families who are experiencing chronic or acute emotional problems. Both centers offer such services as alcohol and drug abuse treatment, mental health treatment, psychosocial rehabilitation, and 24-hour crisis intervention.

Family Support Program
Infant and Toddler Early Intervention The program provides early intervention services to eligible children ages 0-3 years and their families. Children may be eligible who have a diagnosed condition, developmental delay or atypical development.
Residential Services Operates several 24-hour residential programs for adults with mental retardation, including group homes in Sterling, Leesburg and Purcellville.
Respite Care Program To provide families of disabled children and adults with the opportunity for periodic relief from the responsibility of caring for their disabled family member at home.

ECHO, Inc A non-profit organization, ECHO (Every Citizen Has Opportunities) provides a work environment designed to evaluate, train, and place mentally retarded, mentally ill, and physically handicapped adults in supported employment options.

Monroe House Assisted Living

RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program)

The mission of the Loudoun County RSVP is to assist individuals fifty-five years of age or older to stay active and involved, utilizing their skills and life experience to meet community needs. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation, provides an opportunity for individuals ages 55 and older to utilize their skills, life experience and fulfill the desire to participate in their community. A wide range of volunteer opportunities are available to seniors with varying levels of skills and interests. RSVP volunteers work at sites throughout Loudoun County including, Senior Centers, Healthcare Facilities, Thrift Shops, and service programs such as the Home-Delivered Meals, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP).
